This species is abundant during its flight period of July to August and can be identified from the larger Meadow Brown by its size and by the double eyed wing spots on the upperwing. As with the Meadow Brown the females appear late in the season and the larvae feed on similar vegetation. These butterflies are often found near bramble bushes or along hedgerows.
