Small Heath (Coenonympha pamphilus)

Small Heath This small, pale orange-brown butterfly is uncommon on the reserve, being found in grassy areas where its larvae feed in the Barton Lane to Coneries Pond region. Some larvae hibernate throughout the winter, hatching in early spring. A succession of broods occur throughout the summer.
