Wall Brown (Lasiommata megera)
An uncommon butterfly on the reserve, having been recorded on a few occasions in May and late July or early August. It can be identified by its pale orange/brown wings which are streaked with dark brown, mainly on the forewing. The eye spot is prominent on the underside of the forewing and is encircled by a pale ring. This spot is larger in the female. The adults are found mainly on rough ground or in glades. As with many of the brown butterflies the larvae feed on grasses.
