The largest of the skippers found on the reserve inhabits grassy banks and meadows where it can be seen in rapid flight or when newly emerged resting on grasses. This species has an orange/brown upperwing, flecked with pale buff/yellow in the female. The underwing is a pale yellow. When at rest, unlike other butterflies, skippers hold the fore and hindwings at differing angles giving a moth-like appearance. Large Skipper may be seen from Late May through to early August but are most abundant in June and July. Their larvae are another species to be found feeding on grasses.
