Green-veined White (Pieris napi)

Green-veined White

This butterfly is the most abundant of the whites on the reserve, frequenting many areas with a preference for lightly wooded habitats. The two main flight periods are late April to early May and mid July to mid September, where numbers of up to 50 may be seen. This butterfly is similar to the Small White but can be identified by the grey edged yellow veins prominent on the underside of the hindwing. The larvae are to be found on various species of crucifers.
