Butterflies



Brown Argus (Aricia agestis)

Another species that was first recorded on the reserve in 2004.
Both male and female butterflies have a brown upperwing with orange marginal lanules (spots). The underwings are grey/brown with similar orange sub-marginal markings. The flight period is usually after april with a minimum of two broods. These butterflies inhabit heaths or grassy open places with larval food plants such as Rock Rose or Stork's Bill
