| The Cap de Ses Salines will probably be on your itinary after visiting the Salinas and Colonia de
Sant Jordi. To reach the Cap from the salt pans, head back towards Campos until you reach a
crossroads. Turn right to Ses Salines, following the road to Santanyi. After about 2 kilometres take
a right hand turn sign posted in brown to Far des Cap Salines, just after the Botanicus garden centre.
Continue to the end of road and park as close to the lighthouse as possible. Take care not to leave
any valuables in your vehicle as this spot was an area where we witnessed the result of theft from a
car. Surrounding the road down to the Cap, is all private land, owned by the S'Avall Estate and as such is
pretty much undisturbed maquis and garigue. The area is therefore worth scanning from the road for
larks, Red Legged Partridge, raptors including Harriers and is especially good for Stone Curlew.
At the Cap itself it is possible to walk either left or right along the coast from the lighthouse. The walk to
the left, probably the better choice, involves going through a gap in the stone wall beside the
lighthouse. From here it is possible to sit and scan the sea for shearwaters, terns and gulls or walk
slightly inland to check for smaller migrants and Stone Curlew. |
