Red-veined Darter (Sympetrum fonscolombei)
The Red-veined Darter was first recorded in 2004 by A. O. Aitkin where a female of the species was discovered on Wheatear Field close to the new reedbed.

Male Red-veined Darter
The main identification features of this species are the bright red veins on the front of the wings of the male. These are yellow in the female. The other main distinguishing feature is the two tone eyes which are red and blue, being slightly duller in the female.
Mostly this species is found as a rare vagrant from europe, normally arriving in July and August. The species has bred in this country but probably requires warmer winters to become fully established.
